Karun Nair has become latest sensation in Indian cricket after his brilliant triple-hundred in the first innings of the fifth Test between India and England. Nair, who plays Ranji Trophy for Karnataka, showed very good technique and patience in his marathon knock of 303* runs. With this knock, Karun Nair became only the second Indian batsman to reach the 300-run mark in Test cricket. Karun Nair joined Virender Sehwag in India’s ‘300 club’.

Here are some of the facts you need to know about Karun Nair:

Fact #1) Karun Nair was born on the December 6, 1991, in Jodhpur, Rajasthan to Malayali parents. He played his junior cricket in the U-15 Karnataka side and eventually represented India’s U-19 team.

Fact #2) Karun Nair came into limelight after his good performance in 2014-15 Ranji Trophy season, in which he scored 700 runs at an average of 47.26. Nair’s performance was one of the biggest reasons why Karnataka retained the Ranji Trophy that season.

Fact #3) Karun Nair smashed centuries in three successive Ranji matches, including the quarter-finals and the semi-finals. He also hit the title winning six for Karnataka that season.

Fact #4) Karun Nair was the second highest run-scorer for Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the last season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2016). Karun Nair was bought for Rs4 crore by Delhi Daredevils, nearly 40 times his base price of Rs10 lakh.

Fact #5) Karun Nair made his one-day international debut for India in June 2016 against Zimbabwe.

Fact #6) Karun Nair made his Test debut for India in the 5-match series against England (2016).

Fact #7) Karun Nair is the first Indian batsman ever to convert his maiden Test hundred into a triple-hundred.
