The Indian cricket team is always on the lookout to bolster its bowling ranks, and the domestic circuit has always provided the senior team with fresh and raw talent. The IPL has been a great exposure for a lot of these bowlers, who are getting a chance to display their talents on the big stage, and rub shoulders with the greats of the game and learn from them in equal measures. Here is a look at 7 exciting upcoming bowlers in the Indian domestic circuit:
1. Nathu Singh
At the tender age of 21, Nathu Singh comes from very humble means, and his pick for 3.2 crores by the Mumbai Indians in last year’s auction must have been hard for him to believe. The Rajasthani pacer suffered a setback due to his injury, but is on the road to recovery, and is a pacer who clocks 140+ quite regularly.
2. Basil Thampi
Born in 1993, Basil Thampi burst onto the scene in this year’s IPL with his stint with the Gujarat Lions. The Kerala pacer has the ability to touch paces of 140 with ease, and has been known to swing the ball both ways in the early overs, where he was used as a weapon by Suresh Raina.
3. Aamir Gani
The 21-year-old off spinner from Benaras has made waves in the domestic circuit since his successful sojourn with the India U-19 team. He plays for the Bengal team, and was given his first break there after being spotted in UP at the age of 13. He was mentored by Muttiah Muralitharan as part of the Vision 2020 programme, by the Bengal Cricket Board
4. Kuldeep Yadav
He is no longer just a domestic bowler, having made his debut for the senior side recently. He is a left arm chinaman bowler, who has made it a habit to pick up wickets in both variations of the shorter format. He had a great season with KKR in the IPL, and continued his good form in the West Indies series, too. He is definitely one to watch out for.
5. Mohammed Siraj
The 23-year-old got a big opportunity this season when he was handed a start for the Sun Risers Hyderabad, and he did not fail to impress on his first audition for the big stage. He is a self-taught cricketer from his early tennis-ball cricket days, and he landed a 2.6 crore deal with SRH this season. He is a promising fast bowler with good variations and ability to bowl in the death.
6. Sandeep Sharma
He has been a mainstay in the KXIP team for years now, and some would forget that he is only 23 years old. He has represented India at two U-19 World Cups, and has shown promise as a fast medium front line bowler. He has been used to open the bowling, as well as end the innings, and has the ability to bowl a mean slower delivery.
7. Washington Sundar
The 6 1” 17-year-old was ushered onto the big stage in this year’s IPL, coming in as a replacement for the injured Ravi Ashwin. He showed great composure and cool when called upon. He was trusted with the ball during the powerplay overs, and at times in the death overs, and has shown that he is able to use his height to his advantage, and get just that much more purchase off the wicket.
