Cricket LoungeBy Cricket LoungeUpdated:08/02/2023No Comments3 Mins Read

Cricket is a game that can change in one second. The batsmen and bowlers are constantly pushing one another in a quest to help their team win. However, there have been times when these players have not been warned and gotten injured during the game. Here are seven of the scariest injuries in cricket:

Gary Kirsten:

The South African is one of the most popular cricketers in his country and was on the receiving end of a nasty bouncer from none other than Shoaib Akthar. The Pakistani pacer bowled a quick rising bouncer in the game against SA at the Gaddafi Stadium. The ball rose sharply and hit Kirsten square on the eye. He was rushed to the hospital with ten stitches but returned for the second innings.

Brian Lara:

The West Indian legend was on the receiving end of a collision with Marvan Attapattu in a Test match back in 2001. As Lara was running, he clashed into the Sri Lankan and was severely injured. He suffered a shoulder dislocation and a fractured finger because of which he had to miss out on a lot of subsequent matches.

Geoff Lawson

The Australian player was on the receiving end of a very terrible ball from none other than the legendary West Indian pacer, Curtley Ambrose. The ball bowled by the lanky right-arm bowler rose and hit Lawson on the jaw and broke it. Lawson later received an ironic gift from his own teammate, Merv Hughes. Hughes presented Lawson with a gift-wrapped chewing gum.

Rohit Sharma

India’s opener sustained a terrible injury thanks to Stuart Broad in the 2011 series. The Englishman injured Rohit on the first ball of the match with a rising delivery that hit him in the index finger.  He had to rest for three weeks due to which he missed out on the rest of the tournament.

Alex Tudor

The English pacer was not equipped to deal with a nasty Brett Lee bouncer and as a result, had to leave the pitch on a stretcher.  Back in 2002, England and Australia were facing off in the Ashes and Lee bowled one that rose. The ball hit him in the grille of the helmet and injured the player.

Mark Boucher

Mark Boucher had to leave the field at the end of the 46th over of Somerset’s innings on Monday when a googly from Imran Tahir hit the stumps and a dislodged bail struck Boucher in the left eye. This injury ended his career

Rilee Rossouw received this ugly bouncer from Lasith Malinga in the Sri Lanka Premier League. He’ll hope it doesn’t come back to haunt him on Wednesday should he play against Sri Lanka in the quarter-final.
