India’s bowling sensation Shardul Thakur picked his first-ever five-wicket haul in Test for team India in the ongoing second Test against South Africa taking place at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Shardul’s impressive spell helped team India regain control of the second Test of the three-match series against South Africa, that seemed to be slipping away from India’s hands.
It all started with Shardul Thakur removing Proteas skipper Dean Elgar, who nicked it behind for Rishabh Pant to grab an easy catch. This wicket also brought an end to a gritty 74-run stand between Elgar and Keegan Petersen. This brilliance was followed it up with two more wickets.
Shardul successfully removed Keegan Petersen, who was batting on 62 when he went to drive a length delivery that was pitched slightly wide. After picking three wickets in a short spell before Lunch, team India came right back into the game. South Africa went into the break at 102/4, still trailing India by 100 runs.
After the break, Thakur once again as he gave India the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing both Bavuma and Verreynne to complete his five-wicket haul. With this, he also registered his career-best figures in the longest format of the game.
