Pakistan cricket team suffered a shocking 0-3 defeat against England in a three-match Test series at home recently. It was for the first time in history that Pakistan suffered a whitewash in the longest format of the game.

England cricket team, who were traveling for the first time in 17 years for the Test series, blew away Babar Azam and Co. with their new brand of attacking cricket. The Ben Stokes-led side eked a 74-run victory on a dead Rawalpindi track in the series opener, then defeated Pakistan by 24 runs in the second Test in Multan, and then secured an 8-wicket win in the final Test in Karachi on Tuesday. With this defeat, Pakistan also endured a huge blow in the World Test Championship (WTC) contention.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam had a decent outing with the bat in the series, however, he was still criticized mercilessly for his poor captaincy. He scored  348 runs from six innings, which included one hundred and three fifties. However, it was his captaincy, because of which Azam once again came under the scanner following the deplorable result.

Babar Azam named ICC Men's ODI Cricketer of the Year for 2021

Several experts and former cricketers have also asked for the captain to step down from his position. Meanwhile, amidst all the criticism, Azam’s teammate and pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi came out in support of the captain.

On Tuesday, Shaheen Shah Afridi took to his social media and came out in support of the Pakistan captain. He urged the fans to show some respect. Shaheen wrote a lengthy tweet, where he hailed Babar as Pakistan’s pride. He wrote:

“Babar Azam hamari or Pakistan ki Shan, jaan or pehchan hai. Wo Hamara kaptaan hai or rahe ga. Kuch or #sochnabhimanah hai. Please support this team. Yahi team hame jitaye gi bhi. Kahani abhi Khatam nahi howi. #Respect”
