Team India will play their next Cricket World Cup 2023 match at the Wankhede, against Sri Lanka on Thursday. It is to be noted that the BCCI Honorary Secretary, Jay Shah, has canceled any fireworks that would take place at the Wankhede keeping in mind the environmental concerns.
In all of India’s six wins so far in the tournament, at six different cities, there was a glorious display of fireworks at the stadiums after India completed their wins. However, there will be no fireworks at the Wankhede stadium as the BCCI is “committed to combating environmental issues”.
Cricket World Cup 2023: No fireworks at the Wankhede for India’s match, Jay Shah confirms

A day before India’s match against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed that there will be no display of fireworks at this venue.
“BCCI is sensitive to environmental concerns. I took up the matter formally with the ICC and there won’t be any fireworks display in Mumbai, which can add to the pollution level. The Board is committed to combating environmental issues and will always place the interest of our fans and stakeholders at the forefront”: Jay Shah.,
While this might dampen the celebration of the fans if India wins the match, this is a great, and laudatory step taken by the BCCI to not have fireworks in order to mitigate the air pollution.
Meanwhile, in the Cricket World Cup 2023, Team India will miss Hardik Pandya for the Sri Lanka game as well. The team is expected to play the same side that defeated England in Lucknow. India defeated the defending champions England by a big margin of 100 runs when defending a low total of 229 runs.
Rohit Sharma was the Man of the Match for his knock of 87 runs on a tough pitch where no other batsman got a half-century. Bumrah and Mohammed Shami shared 7 wickets between them.
With 6 wins in 6 games, India are just one win away from sealing a Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-final spot.
