Bangladesh cricket team had a great Day 4 where the debutant Zakir Hasan announced his arrival in a blockbuster way by registering a century in the second innings of his debut match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Saturday. Although, Zakir was playing his first Test match but it looked like he had played 30-odd Test matches. Hasan batted with sheer determination against the Indian bowlers as he reached the triple-figures on 219 deliveries in the final session of Day 4.
Zakir made his international his debut early five years ago in a T20I match at home against Sri Lanka. That game remained his only outing on the world stage until the current Test.
Zakir Hasan Revealed His Conversation With Dravid And Kohli
Zakir Hasan, who played a crucial role in a drawn ‘Test’ against India A, impressed one and all with his defensive technique as he remained unbeaten on 82 at the tea break. The batter was involved in a huge opening partnership of 124 runs along with Najmul Shanto as the duo made the bowlers toil a lot. His stunning knock even earned him praises from batting maestro Virat Kohli and batting legend Rahul Dravid.
After the match, Zakir Hasan attended the press conference and revealed the conversation he had with former Indian captain Virat Kohli and India’s head coach Rahul Dravid after the end of the day. He revealed: “He (Virat Kohli) congratulated me and I thanked him. Sir (Dravid) told me that I batted really well and then he congratulated me. When a great player and coach like him comes and says those words, it really feels good.”
Further, Zakir also talked about his performance and said that he was trying to follow the way he bats in First Class cricket. He said: “I was trying to follow the way I bat in First Class cricket,” Zakir said on Saturday. “I didn’t want to think [that] this is a big Test match. I tried to be as simple as possible. It was the same when I was in the nineties. I tried to follow the preparation and [have the same] concentration as I do in the nineties in First Class cricket. I was doing it every ball.”
He added: “That innings provided me with a lot of confidence. A big score leading into a national call-up is certainly a turning point.”
