His knock was laced with 24 fours and 10 sixes. Intially, Ishan made a cautious start to his innings and completed his half-century off 49 balls. He completed his maiden century off 85 balls, however, as soon as he breached that mark he turned on his beast mode and reached the 150-run mark in the next 18 balls and completed the 200-run figure on 141 balls.

In the post-match interview, Ishan Kishan said though he was happy to register a record breaking double ton, he would have been happier if he had batted longer in the innings. He said: “The wicket was too good to bat on. My intent was very clear. I am blessed to hear my name among such legends. I got out with 15 overs left. I could have got 300 also,”

He added: “I was batting with Virat bhai, and he was spot on with which bowlers I needed to select [to target]. I was on 95 and wanted to smack, but he calmed me down, saying it was my first hundred,”
