IPL 2024: 3 Reasons Why Cameron Green Is A Good Pick For RCB

Although it’s not yet officially been announced, reports in Cricbuzz and ESPNcricinfo have confirmed that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have traded in Cameron Green from Mumbai Indians (MI).

MI had to let go of Cameron Green, who they had purchased for INR 17.5 crore in IPL 2023 auction, to make purse for the return of Hardik Pandya.

While some RCB fans are unhappy and confused with the inclusion of Cameron Green, especially for a high price of INR 17.5 crore and RCB has been getting trolled, there are many merits of having Green in their side as a future investment.

3 reasons why RCB made a good pick by trading in Cameron Green:

Green already had a terrific season

Green made his IPL debut last season for MI and had an impressive tournament. He scored 452 runs at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 160 with 2 fifties and 1 century. He was a major reason why MI could reach the playoffs even as Rohit Sharma had a poor season, and he picked 6 wickets as well, doing well in the 5th and 6th bowler’s quota.

This showed that Cameron Green was able to quickly adapt to the Indian conditions and the demands of the IPL as it was his first appearance in the tournament.

Green can have a great time at the Chinnaswamy after joining RCB.

Green is a pace-bowling all-rounder

The three most expensive players in the IPL 2023 auction were all three pace-bowling all-rounders: Sam Curran, Green, and Ben Stokes.

This shows how rare is a pace-bowling all-rounder to find. Apart from Hardik Pandya, India simply didn’t have any quality pace all-rounder as it was proven during the World Cup where India needed two players to fill Hardik’s roles.

Quality pace bowling all-rounders are a rare commodity, especially those would could perform well in the IPL. Having Green in their setup really boosts RCB’s line-up as it would then allow them to play an additional bowler or a batsman depending on the conditions and the opposition and their balance.

Cameron Green is an investment for RCB

While MI made a heavy investment in Green last season, they were more than happy to trade him away because they got Hardik Pandya instead of him. For RCB, this is a major investment, in a potential future superstar.

Faf du Plessis is 39 years old, and Virat Kohli and Maxwell both are 35. Faf is unlikely to be retained after IPL 2024, and Green can be retained along with Kohli, Maxwell, and Siraj. Green is a major investment made by RCB, thinking of the future. Once Faf either retires or is released, Green will most likely slot in the opening position.
