RCB will be looking for a “middle-order power role” in the batting department from Cameron Green. This, according to RCB’s director of cricket Mo Bobat, is why the franchise traded in the Australian all-rounder from Mumbai Indians for a whopping INR 17.5 crore.

The IPL 2024 retention deadline day, Sunday, had everyone talking about the potential move of the Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians. While that move did happen, out of the blue, came the news that MI have traded away Cameron Green to RCB.

First, it stunned everyone. Then the realisation came in that for MI to make space for Hardik Pandya (INR 15 crore) in their purse, and to have some cash to buy players in the auction, they had to trade away Cameron Green, who had a price tag of INR 17.5 crore.

It has been learned that MI had approached two other franchises as well for taking Green, but they refused, and in the end, RCB traded in Green.

Cameron Green is an ideal fit for us in that middle-order power role: Mo Bobat

RCB’s director of cricket, Mo Bobat, praised Green’s all-round abilities and his skillset of his batting against both pacers and spinners.

“He’s the ideal fit for us in that middle-order power role,” Bobat said on RCB Bold Diaries. “He’s a high-quality, skillful and powerful batsman. He’s got the game against both pace and spin. He’s got international experience across formats and I’m sure he will enjoy batting at the Chinnaswamy. So, seeing him do that will be really exciting.

“He’s also a fantastic bowler and he bowls with pace and bounce, which were certainly attributes we were looking for particularly in our home conditions. Let’s not forget what an exceptional fielder he is. Some of the catches he has taken in recent times fielding at gully is seriously impressive.”

Cameron Green had a brilliant debut IPL 2023 season, where he scored 452 runs at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 160 with 2 fifties and 1 century and also took 6 wickets.
