Broadcaster Star Sports has given a massive hint that it could be KL Rahul who would captain India in the T20I series in South Africa.
India will fly for an all-format tour of South Africa in December-January. The tour will kick-start with a 3 T20I series from December 10, followed by 3 ODIs, and 2 Tests.
While Rahul Dravid has been given a contract extension, there is still no confirmation whether Rohit Sharma will lead Team India in next year’s T20 World Cup. There are various reports coming which have said that the BCCI wants Rohit and Dravid to continue to head the team at least until next year’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.
But in the latest promo by Star Sports for the T20I series in South Africa, it has been hinted that KL Rahul might lead the side from hereon.

Star Sports released a promo for the T20I series between India and South Africa. Not Rohit Sharma or Hardik Pandya, but KL Rahul featured in the promo.
In the promo, Rahul said: “To become the world’s best T20 is difficult. To dominate the South African pacers at their own turf is difficult. But to beat South Africa in their own backyard will be fun.”
KL Rahul tweeted the promo with the caption: “It’s going to be a tough challenge… but it’s only fun if it’s tough, right? We’re here to take on the South African challenge and win!

Rahul has been one of the vice-captains under Rohit Sharma in the past two years, along with Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav. It has been reported that the BCCI office bearers and the selectors have had a chat with Rohit and they have asked Rohit to captain the side in next year’s T20 World Cup.
