Rating All The IPL Sides After Retentions And Releases

The latest window of IPL retentions and releases have been downright dramatic and the teams will be coming face to face with each other in a mini-war at the auction room on December 19th, 2023. This day will determine the fate of the latest squads for each side in the IPL. With that being said, all the teams in IPL now have a nucleus around which they will be building.

Before things start, and before the mini war begins in the auction room to land the players for the upcoming auction of IPL, here’s how the team stands and this is our rating for each team.

Chennai Super Kings:

Rating All The IPL Sides After Retentions And Releases

MS Dhoni (c) (wk), Moeen Ali, Deepak Chahar, Devon Conway (wk), Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajay Mandal, Mukesh Choudhary, Matheesha Pathirana, Ajinkya Rahane, Shaik Rasheed, Mitchell Santner, Simarjeet Singh, Nishant Sindhu, Prashant Solanki, Maheesh Theekshana.

Rating – 8/10

With almost the main core of the players who performed in the preceding edition of IPL intact, Chennai Super Kings will obviously be the favourites again to take on the other oppositions in the tournament and truth be told, when it comes to CSK, they are a team likes to revolve around a strong nexus.

Kolkata Knight Riders:

Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Shreyas Iyer, Jason Roy, Sunil Narine, Suyash Sharma, Anukul Roy, Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer, Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy.

Rating – 6.5/10

With a major chunk of players released and still pinning hopes on Andre Russell and Sunil Narine with both being miles away from their prime, KKR will need some serious shopping around to fill their ranks. Rinku Singh’s retention is going to be the biggest boost but then again, cricket is a team game and every member matters equally.

Delhi Capitals:

Rishabh Pant, Pravin Dubey, David Warner, Vicky Ostwal, Prithvi Shaw, Anrich Nortje, Abishek Porel, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Lungi Ngidi, Lalit Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Mitchell Marsh, Ishant Sharma, Yash Dhull, Mukesh Kumar.

Rating – 6/10

The Capitals will need to batten up their hatches for when Rishabh Pant returns, he will need to have a strong core around him. Being very honest, the way the Capitals have played over the years and unless there is a major change coming up and some serious shopping Delhi Capitals seems pretty meek on paper.

Rajasthan Royals:

Sanju Samson (c) (wk), Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Donovan Ferreira, Kunal Rathore, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Sen, Navdeep Saini, Prasidh Krishna, Sandeep Sharma, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Adam Zampa, Avesh Khan.

Rating – 7/10

With Avesh Khan coming into the side, last year’s woes of poor bowling with the new ball despite decent starts from Trent Boult will now be taken care of. However, Devdutt Padikkal’s release may be a significant turning point.

Punjab Kings:

Shikhar Dhawan (c), Matthew Short, Prabhsimran Singh (wk), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Sikandar Raza, Rishi Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, Atharva Taide, Arshdeep Singh, Nathan Ellis, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada, Harpreet Brar, Rahul Chahar, Harpreet Bhatia, Vidwath Kaverappa, Shivam Singh.

Rating – 7.5/10

Riding heavily on Shikhar Dhawan, the Punjab Kings will be hopeful of scripting a remarkable turnaround after a questionable season in 2023. With the likes of Rabada, Brar and Arshdeep Singh, they will need to get hold of a decent bowling option who can add to the consistency quotient of the team.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram (c), Marco Jansen, Rahul Tripathi, Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, Sanvir Singh, Heinrich Klaasen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Agarwal, T Natarajan, Anmolpreet Singh, Mayank Markande, Upendra Singh Yadav, Umban Malik, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Shahbaz Ahmed.

Rating – 5.5/10

The Orange Army will be hoping against hope that the inclusion of Shahbaz Ahmed can produce magic after the lanky southpaw impressed heavily in the domestic tournaments. However, the rest of the side is still inexperienced and unless there is someone who can anchor the ship, SRH is still in the choppy waters.

Lucknow Super Giants:

KL Rahul (c), Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Kyle Mayers, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Ravi Bishnoi, Naveen-ul-Haq, Krunal Pandya, Yudhvir Singh, Prerak Mankad, Yash Thakur, Amit Mishra, Mark Wood, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Devdutt Padikkal.

Rating – 8.5/10

With the inclusion of Devdutt Padikkal and keeping the core of the team intact, LSG will be hopeful of mounting a serious challenge and may even find themselves in the finale for this year if not for unexpected injuries.

Mumbai Indians:

Rohit Sharma (c), Dewald Brevis, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, N. Tilak Verma, Tim David, Vishnu Vinod, Arjun Tendulkar, Hardik Pandya (T), Cameron Green, Shams Mulani, Nehal Wadhera, Jasprit Bumrah, Kumar Kartikeya, Piyush Chawla, Akash Madhwal, Jason Behrendorff, Romario Shepherd.

Rating – 9/10

One of the most successful teams of the tournament will be massively buoyed with the inclusion of Hardik Pandya. Not only does this move mean that they will have a very trusted general in Hardik but they can also include another foreign player to the side with their respective skillset.

Gujarat Titans:

David Miller, Shubman Gill (c), Matthew Wade, Wriddhiman Saha, Kane Williamson, Abhinav Manohar, B. Sai Sudharsan, Darshan Nalkande, Vijay Shankar, Jayant Yadav, Rahul Tewatia, Mohammed Shami, Noor Ahmad, R. Sai Kishore, Rashid Khan, Joshua Little, Mohit Sharma.

Rating – 8/10

One of the major differences for GT will of course be the absence of Hardik Pandya. Not only will they be missing their captain but they will be missing out on a very talented middle-order batter and a bowler with a couple of handy overs up his sleeve. Only time shall tell how good is going to be Shubman Gill.

Royal Challengers Bangalore:

Faf du Plessis (c), Glenn Maxwell, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Anuj Rawat, Dinesh Karthik, Suyash Prabhudessai, Will Jacks, Mahipal Lomror, Karn Sharma, Manoj Bhandage, Mayank Dagar, Vyshak Vijay Kumar, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley, Himanshu Sharma, Rajan Kumar, Cameron Green (T).

Rating – 8/10

With the inclusion of Cameron Green and Mayank Dagar, RCB may have gone for two very valuable options. However, their bowling still remains to be a concern with Josh Hazlewood gone. Hence, the Men in Red and Gold may look around for Mitchell Starc.
