Kevin Pietersen, the former England captain, believes that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have the potential to play crucial roles for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024. However, he also emphasized that selectors should assess their performance during the IPL 2024 to make informed decisions.
Well, the speculation regarding the T20 future of Kohli and Rohit Sharma has become one of the most talked about topics off-lately, given that the duo hasn’t featured in a T20I since India’s exit from the semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2022 in Australia at the hands of England. In their absence, young players have delivered commendable performances.
Despite Rohit and Kohli showcasing impressive form in the recently concluded ODI World Cup, Pietersen emphasized that much will hinge on their performance in the IPL 2024.
Kevin Pietersen Gave An Honest Take On Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma’s Participation In The T20 World Cup 2024

During an interview with IANS at the Legends League Cricket 2023, Kevin Pietersen, the former England all-rounder, expressed his belief that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stand a strong chance of participating in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He said:
“They ( Kohli and Rohit) have every chance, would have to see how they go in IPL, check them in the IPL. Because they have been so incredible servants to Indian cricket, you have to give them the respect and you have to ask them that according to form whether they fancy their chances or not. They are fabulous cricketers,”
Kevin Pietersen explained that the form of both the players in IPL 2024 will follow in the T20I World Cup too as both tournaments will be played back-to-back. He said:
“IPL form is going to go a long way, because the final of the IPL and T20 World Cup 2024 wouldn’t have much gap in between. Might be a swansong for couple of them. Let’s wait and see, those kind of players who have dedicated their life to playing for India deserve the respect too,”
The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to take place next year in June in the West Indies and the USA. Concurrently, Rohit Sharma is all set to captain Mumbai Indians, and Virat Kohli will be representing Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2024.
