Commentator Ravi Shastri was at his hilarious best when he trolled Team India after their epic collapse in their first innings of the Cape Town Test against South Africa.

South Africa had been bowled out for only 55 runs in their first innings in the morning session at Newlands with Mohammed Siraj taking a sensational six-wicket haul. When India were 153/4, with Virat Kohli batting, it felt they would gain a significant lead and would bat South Africa out of the game.

However, in the most unexpected of twists, the Indian batters fell like nine pins, losing 6 wickets for zero runs in 11 balls, with Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada sharing the wickets. This gave South Africa an opportunity to come back in the game with the bat.

Though it was a spicy surface with grass on it and uneven bounce, nobody thought India would go down such astonishingly, collapsing from 153/4 to, well, 153 all-out.

The fans couldn’t believe their eyes. And neither could Ravi Shastri, who was doing commentary at the time. Even under such baffling times, Shastri managed to crack a hilarious joke that got the viewers and his co-commentators bursting into laughter.

With India losing 6 wickets in a space of 11 balls and five batters getting out for a duck apart from Kohli, Ravi Shastri, on commentary, said, “If someone went around the corner for a duck and has come back, India have been bowled out for 153.”

Nandre Burger, Ngidi and Rabada took three wickets each in India’s innings, as India took a lead of 98 runs, which was still sizeable considering how difficult batting has been on this surface in Newlands. At the time of writing, South Africa have lost three wickets for 50 runs, and trail by 48 more runs. Dean Elgar departed for 12 runs in his last Test innings.
