Hours out from the opening game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the two biggest football icons in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and perhaps the two biggest rivals in team sport ever, stunned the world as they united for a brand, Louis Vuitton, one of the world’s largest fashion house.

Both the superstar footballers dropped a photo of playing chess, although they didn’t get it clicked together and were morphed into one frame.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, the individual with most followers on Instagram, was the first one to upload it and broke the internet followed by the Argentina skipper Lionel Messi

“Victory is a State of Mind,” Ronaldo captioned the post, which has received over 35 million likes so far and counting and also millions of comments.

One like and comment came from Indian cricket mega-star Virat Kohli. The former India captain has always hailed Ronaldo as the best footballer in his eyes, admiring the mental strength of the Manchester United player and lauding his incredible work ethic.

“What a picture,” wrote Kohli in the comments section of the post. His comment now also has gathered more than 100,000 likes!

This 2022 FIFA World Cup is all but likely to be the last for both Ronaldo, 37, and Messi, 34, and both the global icons would want to leave the sport with the World Cup trophy, the only trophy they haven’t been able to win. They have come close – Ronaldo and Portugal reached the semi-final in 2006 where they lost to France, while Mess had dragged Argentina to the 2014 final but lost in the final to Germany – but failed to get their hands on the coveted trophy.

Argentina will open their campaign against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday while Portugal will play their first match against Ghana on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is currently on a rest from the New Zealand tour, along with other seniors of the team and head coach Rahul Dravid too. All the players will return for the tour of Bangladesh, which included 3 ODIs and an important 2-Test series that is part of the World Test Championship.
