India’s top-ranked ICC T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav, is set to undergo surgery for an ankle injury as he prepares for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
As per the Indian Express report, Suryakumar Yadav is dealing with a hernia and needs surgery to avoid potential complications. Despite this, the dynamic player is anticipated to participate for Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2024 after making a full recovery.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in talks with specialists and is considering sending Yadav abroad for surgery. A board member, not disclosed, stated that Yadav’s anticipated recovery time is around eight to nine weeks, after which he can gradually resume training.
“Whereas in Yadav’s case he will take more time than expected. After his hernia operation it might take up to eight-nine weeks for him to start training. Hopefully he will be fit during the IPL.”
Yadav, excluded from the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, sustained an ankle injury while fielding in the third T20 match in South Africa last December. The 33-year-old underwent surgery and was observed using a leg brace during his visit to the UK.
Off the field, Yadav has been nominated by the ICC for the T20I Cricketer of the Year 2023, along with players like Sikandar Raza, Mark Chapman, and Alpesh Ramjani.
In 17 T20I innings, Yadav showcased his batting prowess by scoring 733 runs at an outstanding average of 48.86 and an impressive strike rate of 155.95. The explosive batter notched up two centuries and five fifties during this period.
