Brad Hogg Highlights A Big Concern For India After Rohit Replaced Virat As ODI Skipper

Brad Hogg Shared A Big Concern For India After Rohit Replaced Virat As ODI Skipper: India’s sensational opener Rohit Sharma replacing Virat Kohli as the ODI skipper of team India has become one of the most talked-about topics in the cricket fraternity. Several cricketers, experts, and pundits are coming up with their opinions on the matter. The latest one to join the bandwagon is former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg, who has welcomed this move by the BCCI.

Rohit Sharma, who was already made the in-charge of team India’s T20I format, on Wednesday, was officially announced as full-time India’s white-ball captain, replacing Virat Kohli as skipper in ODI format as well.

As per Brad Hogg, the recent development might turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Virat Kohli and the Indian cricket team. The veteran believes that separate captains for red-ball and white-ball cricket might just take the burden off the two cricketers going forward in the international scene.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, the former wrist-spinner also said that Virat Kohli, who has been going through a rough phase with the bat, can now focus on his batting. He said:

“I think this is a good move. Kohli should just embrace it and relax about the whole situation and should concentrate on captaining the Test team. So basically, you’ve got Rohit Sharma just concentrating on the team he wants in white-ball cricket and Virat Kohli focusing on Test cricket. It takes a lot of pressure off you,”

He added:

“Whereas Rohit Sharma has only got to worry about the white-ball environment plus all the sponsorship and other commitments off the field. I think this is going to be better for Virat Kohli. It is going to improve his performances which have slightly dropped off slightly in the last couple of years when he’s been under pressure while captaining all three teams,”

Furthermore, Hogg also expressed his concern regarding any dressing room tension that might develop after the recent development surrounding Kohli and Sharma. He said:

“I think it’s a blessing in disguise. I just hope when they go on their next tour, that change room is not separated by this little slight division between these two particular players”

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the BCCI also announced the Test team of India for the upcoming South Africa tour, and Rohit Sharma was promoted as the vice-captain in the longest format of the game. The BCCI is yet to name the ODI squad for the South Africa tour.
