Hopefully One Day My Son Will Come And See Me: Shikhar Dhawan

Senior India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has opened up for the first time in an interview about his separation from his son, Zoravar, driven by his ex-wife, Ayesha Mukherjee. Dhawan said that his emotional Instagram post on Zoravar’s ninth birthday on December 26 was his effort to try to send his love and message to his son, whom he has not talked with now for over 4-5 months and had not met in person for more than a year.

Shikhar Dhawan and Ayesha Mukherjee got divorced last year, and Zoravar, aged 9, has been with Ayesha in Australia for more than a year.

Last month, Dhawan had taken to Instagram to pen a very emotional, teary-hearted note on Zoravar’s birthday. That post went viral among fans and celebrities and Dhawan got huge support from all corners.

In a recent interview with Humans of Bombay, the left-handed India opener said that he is hoping that his Instagram post was seen by his son because he has not been allowed to contact or talk with Zoravar for the past few months.

Dhawan said: “I was not in pain. I was just expressing my thoughts. It has been five months, since I have spoken to him, I was just expressing emotions. I am an emotional guy and I was just trying to send love to him, because if I will be sad while thinking about him that negative energy will get him. I never realized that this post will go viral. I just wrote it from my heart.

“I wrote it with a hope that in an era of technology my son might end up reading my post. Wherever he is, I hope he is happy hopefully one day he would come and see me. I am in love with him but at the same time I am also detached. I don’t want to push him.”

The 38-year-old reveals that he writes messages to Zoravar every day, but is unaware whether his son gets to read his messages – he said in his Insta post that he’s been blocked from everywhere.

“I write messages to him every day, I don’t know whether he is receiving those or not, whether he is reading it or not. I don’t have any expectations. I have accepted it. I am a father and I am trying to do my duty. I miss him. I feel sad but I have learnt to live with it. When I used to go and meet him, he was allowed to meet only twice that too only for two to three hours. I want my son to be around me. I want to hug him,” Dhawan said.

Dhawan will next bee seen leading the Punjab Kings in the upcoming IPL 2024 season.
