Musheer Khan Equals Elder Brother Sarfaraz's Massive Record In Under-19 World Cup

In the ongoing Under-19 World Cup 2024 in South Africa, Musheer Khan has equaled a stunning feat that his elder brother Sarfaraz Khan achieved in the 2016 U-19 World Cup.

Musheer Khan has set the 2024 U-19 World Cup on fire with two centuries and a half-century in his first four innings and is the leading run-scorer of the tournament at the time of writing.

If he continues batting like a dream as he has done in the last three games, he could not only finish as India’s leading run-scorer, as his brother Sarfaraz did in 2016, but Musheer could even be the tournament’s top-scorer, something which Sarfaraz missed only by a short distance.

Musheer Khan likely to break Sarfaraz Khan’s runs tally from 2016 Under-19 World Cup

In the 2016 under-19 World Cup, Sarfaraz Khan was the second leading run-scorer of the tournament and the highest for India with 355 runs in 6 innings at an average of 71, slamming 5 half-centuries. England’s Jack Burnham finished as the top-scorer with 40 runs.

Talking about Musheer’s tournament so far, he has racked up 325 runs – which is 91 more than the second-best – in four outings at an average of 81 and strike rate of 103, piling up two centuries and a half-century. He has creamed 28 fours, the most by a batter, so far.

His latest knock was a blistering century against New Zealand, which came less than 24 hours after Sarfaraz Khan got his maiden India Test squad call-up.

Batting at number 3, Musheer Khan slammed 13 fours and 3 sixes in his thunderous knock of 131 runs in 126 balls against the New Zealand under-19 in Bloemfontein in their Super Sixes matches. India, eventually, won by 214 runs. He started the tournament with innings of 118 vs Ireland U-19 and 73 against USA Under-19

With his hundred against New Zealand, Musheer became only the second Indian batsman, after Shikhar Dhawan, to hit two centuries in a single U-19 World Cup tournament.
