Since Saturday, commentator Harsha Bhogle has been getting a lot of trolling on Twitter for his bland, unenthusiastic commentary bit on Jasprit Bumrah’s stunning yorker to Ollie Pope on Day 2 of the ongoing Test match in Visakhapatnam.
This escalated in the commentary box as well when Dinesh Karthik, the senior India cricketer and now a commentator too, took a cheeky dig at Harsha Bhogle, with the senior commentator replying in the banter.
When Bumrah’s thunderous yorker uprooted Pope’s middle and leg stumps, Harsha Bhogle on air said, “What a ball, what a bowler.”
While fans were astonished by the delivery from the Indian pacer, they were disappointed listening to Bhogle’s bland and unenergetic commentary piece. The fans were left wanting for more from the commentators after listening to Steve Harmison, the former England pacer’s commentary on a radio for the same Bumrah delivery.
Fans believe Harsha Bhogle’s commentary is bland and ordinary – and it didn’t take long for them to recall Bhogle’s commentary on Virat Kohli’s six to Harsi Rauf at MCG: “Kohli goes down the ground. Kohli goes out of the ground”. Indian fans feel some of these iconic moments – such as Bumrah’s yorker to Pope and Kohli’s six to Rauf – deserve better commentary pieces than what Harsha Bhogle provided.
Dinesh Karthik pulls Harsha Bhogle’s leg in commentary over his trolling on Twitter
On Sunday, Day 3 of the Vizag Test match, Dinesh Karthik started a cheeky banter with Bhogle. Seeing Bhogle being trolled on Twitter, Dinesh Karthik said, “Everywhere I see, I read ‘what a ball, what a bowler.”
With a smile, Harsha Bhogle replied, “I see you’re spending too much time on social media.”
Meanwhile, India have taken a strong hold on the game through Shubman Gill’s century after losing Rohit Sharma, Jaiswal, Iyer, and Patidar in the first session on Day 3. India’s lead has now swelled to over 350 with 6 wickets in hand.
