Every time Yashasvi Jaiswal does well on the field, pictures of him and his father with a panipuri stall flood the internet with fans hailing the struggle-filled childhood of the left-hander. However, now, Yashasvi’s childhood coach Jwala Singh has removed the curtains over this story, saying that it is “absolutely false” and that the Jaiswal family didn’t live in poverty.
At the young age of 12, Yashasvi Jaiswal left his village in Uttar Pradesh and moved to Mumbai to fulfill his dream of playing cricket. He lived in a tent outside Azad maidan. Until here the famous story is true. However, he didn’t sell panipuris nor did he live in poverty, confirms Jwala Singh.
The Panipuri pictures and stories once again resurfaced recently after he slammed a brilliant double century against England in Vizag, which proved vital in India’s victory in the second Test match.
Yashasvi Jaiswal stayed at a good place in Santa Cruz
Speaking with My Khel, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s childhood coach Jwala Singh revealed that the cricketer stayed at his house for nine years and was given the best facilities to grow as a cricketer. He slammed the media for spreading fake panipuri stories for clicks.
“Sometimes I feel disappointed because people say he and his father was a panipuri seller. From December 17, 2013 to January 12, 2022 he stayed at my house with my family. There was nothing called poverty in his life at that time. Before that when he used to stay at a tent in Azad Maidan, he did some things back then. But his father was never a Panipuri seller,” Jwala Singh told My Khel.
“I am his legal guardian and have the Power of Attorney through his parents. He stayed with me as my son. So I get hurt when people say he used to sell Panipuri. This is absolutely false. He stayed at a good place in Santa Cruz. He got facilities and we invested a lot of time, money and energy on him. You need advanced facilities to be an Indian player, and he got that. So many people think they will sell panipuri and play for India, which is completely misguiding. So this sensationalism needs to be stopped,” the coach added.
Nonetheless, the hard work that has gone behind the scenes from Jwala and Yashasvi and the sacrifices of their families have paved him to become the player he is now.
