‘Does This Make Sense’: Irfan Pathan Puzzled With Ishan Kishan For Skipping Ranji Matches

The whereabouts of Ishan Kishan have puzzled former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan. Ishan Kishan, who has not played a single professional game since December, is reported to be currently in Baroda, training along with Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya at the Kiran More Academy.

November 28, 2023, was the last time the wicketkeeper from Jharkhand stepped on the field for a professional game. He was not picked for the white-ball matches in South Africa but was named in the Test squad. However, Ishan Kishan withdrew from the 2 Tests in South Africa, citing personal reasons, and since then he has been on a break.

He skipped the 3 T20Is against Afghanistan, the ongoing 5-Test series against England, and also the Ranji Trophy 2024. It seems that he will straightaway return to action in the IPL 2024.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, the 25-year-old has gone to Baroda to train and practice with Hardik Pandya, his new Mumbai Indians captain, and Krunal Pandya.

It has been his skipping the Ranji Trophy matches for Jharkhand that has also not settled well with many fans and ex-cricketers.

Without mentioning Kishan’s name, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan tweeted saying he’s puzzled with “someone” not featuring in the Ranji matches despite apparently being fit to train.

Irfan Pathan tweeted: “Finding it perplexing how someone can be fit enough to practice but not play domestic cricket. How does this even make sense?”

Ishan Kishan needs to play some cricket and come back: Rahul Dravid

"Does This Make Sense?" Irfan Pathan Puzzled With Ishan Kishan For Skipping Ranji Matches

Following India’s victory over England in Vizag, head coach Rahul Dravid was quizzed about Kishan and what lies in the future for the left-hander. Dravid said Kishan will need to play some form of the game to be considered for selection in the national team.

“There’s a way back for anyone and everyone. It’s not that we rule out anybody from anything. I just don’t want to go on labouring the Ishan Kishan point. I’ve tried to explain it as best as I can. The point was that, you know, he requested a break. We were happy to give him the break and whenever he was ready… I didn’t say he has to play domestic cricket. I said, whenever he’s ready, he needs to play some cricket and come back, and the choice is his,” Dravid said.

“We’re not forcing him to do anything, and we are in touch with him. It’s not that we’re not in touch. We know what it is, but he hasn’t yet started playing, right?”
