“I Passed On My Bad Luck..” – Anil Kumble On Sarfaraz Khan’s Run-Out In Debut Match – Making his Test debut for the Indian cricket team, Sarfaraz Khan’s promising innings of 62 runs from 66 balls came to an abrupt end due to a disastrous run-out, courtesy of his batting partner Ravindra Jadeja.

The unfortunate incident unfolded when Jadeja, after playing a shot against James Anderson, hesitated in calling for a single, leaving Sarfaraz Khan stranded mid-pitch. Despite initially signaling for the run, Jadeja changed his mind after taking a few steps, leaving Sarfaraz with no chance of making it back to the crease in time.

Fielder Mark Wood executed a precise throw from mid-off, leaving Sarfaraz with no opportunity to retreat and reach the crease in time. The right-handed batsman was consequently forced to depart, making his way back to the dressing room. Expressing his frustration at the unfortunate run-out, Indian captain Rohit Sharma angrily hurled his cap into the changing room.

Speaking on Jio Cinema, former Indian spinner Anil Kumble spoke about Sarfaraz Khan’s dominating performance in the partnership alongside Ravindra Jadeja. Kumble noted that Jadeja appeared to be indecisive, a situation where batsmen often struggle with clarity in decision-making.

Anil Kumble said, “Sarfaraz was dominating in that partnership. Jadeja, I thought had got into a shell, that sometimes creates a mindset where you are not clear about the decision making. And maybe that was one of the reasons and possibly I passed on my bad luck of getting run out on debut because I got run out on my debut. But at least he got 65 (Sarfaraz scored 62) more.”

With this knock, Sarfaraz Khan matched Hardik Pandya’s record with a brisk fifty off 48 balls, then partnered with Ravindra Jadeja for a crucial 77-run stand, boosting India’s innings. Despite a rocky start, India finished Day 1 of the third Test at 326/5, with Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav at the crease. India aims to build a substantial first-innings total to gain an edge in the series, currently tied at 1-1.
