Former India batsman Virender Sehwag made a justification tweet after he received severe backlash following his tweet about Dhruv Jurel not getting the hype as Sarfaraz Khan got ahead of his debut.

Not only that, Virender Sehwag, in his original tweet, had not been any “emotional drama” by Jurel, indirectly referring to the emotional moments between Sarfaraz Khan and his father, Naushad, shared after the 26-year-old received his Test debut cap in Rajkot.

Sarfaraz and Jurel both made their Test debut in the third Test against England in Ranchi. It is not to be denied that attention was more on Sarfaraz than Jurel. But there was a reason for it: Sarfaraz had been knocking on the door for the past 3-4 years through the sheer weight of his performances: he had averaged 69 in first-class cricket before his Test debut.

But after Jurel’s brilliant 90-run knock in Ranchi that helped India come close to England’s total, Virender Sehwag took a cheeky dig at Sarfaraz and all those who talked extensively about the Mumbai batsman and the journey he and his father undertook.

Sehwag’s first tweet read: “No media hype, no drama, just some outstanding skills and quietly showed great temparement in a very difficult situation.
Very Well done Dhruv Jurel. Best wishes”

This was an edited tweet; in his original tweet, he had written ” no emotional drama,” which confirmed fans’ suspicion that he was targeting Sarfaraz and his father.

Virender Sehwag justifies himself; asks for “equal hype” of all players

This led to a severe backlash against the former India opener, with fans slamming and lashing out at him for such a tweet and mindset.

Soon, after seeing the reactions, Virender Sehwag made an explanatory tweet. Although he still mentioned the “hype” saying that all players should get equal hype.

Sehwag explained, “Not to degrade or demean anyone, but hype should be on performance and be equal. Some guys have bowled brilliantly, some have batted exceptionally but haven’t got the hype they deserve.
Akash Deep was outstanding here, Yashasvi has been brilliant through the series and so was Sarfaraz at Rajkot and Dhruv Jurel in all his opportunities.
Hype sabko karo.”
