Gautam Gambhir Parts Ways With Politics Ahead Of IPL 2024

On Saturday (March 2), he posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he asked BJP president JP Nadda to let him step back from his political duties. This way, he can focus on his upcoming cricket commitments.

Gautam Gambhir, a former World Cup winner, joined politics in 2019. He ran for the Lok Sabha Elections from East Delhi and won the seat, defeating Congress’ Arvinder Singh Lovely. Despite expectations of contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, Gambhir chose to prioritize his cricket commitments. In his note he thanked the Prime Minister and Home Minister, he wrote:

“I have requested Hon’ble Party President @JPNadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM @narendramodi ji and Hon’ble HM @AmitShah ji for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind!”

Gambhir To Mentor KKR In IPL 2024

Gautam Gambhir is gearing up for a comeback to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp. After mentoring the Lucknow Super Giants in the last two IPL seasons, he’s now returning to his former team. Gambhir had a remarkable journey with KKR as both a player and a leader.

During his time with KKR from 2011 to 2017, Gambhir not only played but also captained the team. Under his leadership, KKR achieved significant milestones, including their first-ever playoff appearance in 2011 and their maiden IPL title win in 2012. In 2014, he led KKR to their second IPL trophy.

However, since then, KKR hasn’t tasted title success. With Gambhir back in the mix, they’re hoping for a change in fortune. The upcoming IPL 2024 season kicks off on March 22, with KKR starting their campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23. Fans are eager to see if Gambhir’s return can reignite the team’s winning spirit.
