As per reports the selections have already finalized the squad for the major event and are unlikely to make significant changes based on the IPL performances.
“IPL will be important, but it won’t be the main criteria for selection for the T20 World Cup. The selectors have more or less chalked out a squad. The IPL won’t change too much unless there is a breakthrough performance or a drastic dip in form,” the source was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
With the Indian Premier League’s performances no longer being the primary factor for selection can pose a major challenge for Virat Kohli, whose spot in the T20 World Cup team is uncertain. Recent reports suggest that the selectors are hesitant to include the former India captain in the World Cup squad.

For the unversed, Virat and Rohit Sharma were not picked in the T20I format following the T20 World Cup before they were recalled for the 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan at home.
While Rohit Sharma was able to make a grand comeback, registering a fine century in the 3rd T20I, on the other hand, Kohli failed to live up to the expectations and was dismissed with scores of 29 and 0 in two outings.
The report also added that Virat Kohli will only be considered for the T20 World Cup if he delivers an exceptional performance in the upcoming IPL 2024 season. As of now, players like Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, and Shivam Dube are ranked higher than Kohli in the selection hierarchy.
