Son of legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun Tendulkar, has got his Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 season off to a rollicking start playing for his new state, Goa.
Arjun made a big shift from Mumbai to Goa ahead of the start of this domestic season. He’d been on the bench for most of the time in the Mumbai squad last season and in a bid to get more game time and match experience, the 23-year-old shifted base to Goa, where he has starred in all three SMAT matches so far.
Arjun grabbed the headlines on Friday for his superb 4-wicket haul against Hyderabad in the game that was played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, where Arjun relished in the conditions that offered pacers some help.
The young left-arm pacer, who has been on the bench of the Mumbai Indians team as well for the last two IPL seasons, was on the money right from his first over. He finished with applaudable figures of 4-1-10-4, including the wicket of his Mumbai Indians teammate and talented batsman Tilak Varma; the other three batters in Arjun Tendulkar’s haul included opener Prateek Reddy, and middle-order batters Rahul Buddhi and Ravi Teja.
Despite Arjun Tendulkar’s four-for, Hyderabad were able to make 177 courtesy of 55 by opener Tanmay Agarwal and Tilak Varma’s 62.
Before this high-quality show, Arjun Tendulkar has put up impressive performances in the tournament: against Manipur, the left-arm speedster returned with figures of 2/20 in 4 overs; and before that against Tripura he conceded only 20 runs in 3 wicketless overs.
Arjun’s thunderous shows with the ball in those two matches played a crucial role in Goa winning them both to keep the hopes of progressing in the knockouts alive.
Will Arjun Tendulkar make his IPL debut next year?
If Arjun continues to produce such impressive performances, the youngster might get a chance to make his IPL debut next year. He has spent the last two seasons on the bench, but apparently has learned plenty from the senior bowlers and coaches in Mumbai Indians.
