Pat Cummins is “pumped up” to take charge of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise for IPL 2024. He has sent out a bold message to SRH fans and other franchises that he will be aiming to bring the success and glory days of SRH back.
SRH have had tumultuous times in recent years, which has seen a frequent change in captains and coaches. After David Warner, Kane Williamson, and Aiden Markram, Pat Cummins will be the fourth skipper to lead SRH in four consecutive seasons. SRH have not reached the playoffs since 2020.
Cummins arrived in India for the IPL 2024 on March 19 and immediately took charge of the proceeding with photoshoots and practice sessions. He is excited to be part of the Orange Army.
Pat Cummins said, “Pumped up to be joining SRH for the upcoming IPL season. I have heard a lot about the orange army, I have played at Hyderabad a few times. I can’t wait to get started. Great to see another Aussie in Travis Head over there. I think we will have a lot of fun this season and hope for plenty of success.”
SRH spent a huge amount on Pat Cummins in IPL 2024 auction

Cummins was bought for a huge sum of INR 20.5 crore at the IPL 2024 auction. He became the most expensive ever IPL player when SRH splurged this amount on the Aussie Test and ODI captain; but his record was soon broken by teammate Mitchell Starc, for whom KKR shelled out INR 24.75 crore.
Last year, Pat Cummins, after skipping the IPL to rest for international commitments, led Australia to the WTC title and the World Cup 2023 trophy, defeating India in the final of both marquee tournaments.
This prompted SRH to go big on the Aussie pacer. His huge-money signing also meant that SRH decided to make him their captain, even though Aiden Markram led SEC to two consecutive SA20 titles while Cummins doesn’t have any T20 experience.
