Mumbai Indians’ captain, Hardik Pandya, discussed his team’s defeat against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024 match at the Wankhede Stadium. He shouldered the responsibility for the loss and acknowledged that he needed to perform better with the bat.

Mumbai Indians faced their third consecutive defeat in IPL 2024 as Rajasthan Royals defeated them by 6 wickets at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday (1st April).

Mumbai Indians struggled with the bat, scoring only 125 runs. They were in trouble at 20/4 but skipper Hardik Pandya (34) and Tilak Varma (32) tried to rescue the team with their partnership.

Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma’s partnership of 56 runs ended just when Mumbai Indians needed it to continue. Despite their effort, the team only scored 125 runs. Rajasthan Royals’ Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal shined with the ball. While Mumbai Indians managed to take early wickets, they couldn’t maintain the pressure. Riyan Parag’s unbeaten 54 runs guided Rajasthan Royals to a 6-wicket victory, marking their third win of the season.

Mumbai Indians’ next match is against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, April 7th, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Eager to secure their first win in IPL 2024, they’ll be determined to put up a strong performance against their opponents.

“Yes, a tough night, we didn’t start the way we wanted to start. I wanted to counter, we were in a decent position to get us around 150-160, but my wicket allowed them to get back more into the game, I needed to do a lot more.”

2 Reasons Why Hardik Pandya Should Immediately Step Down As The Captain Of Mumbai Indians

Hardik Pandya also commented on the pitch, expressing surprise at the level of assistance it provided to the bowlers. The all-rounder emphasized the team’s potential for improvement, highlighting the importance of discipline and courage in their performances. He further stated:

“It’s okay, we didn’t expect such a surface, but you can’t always have it as a batter, it’s nice at times for the bowlers to have a say. It’s all about doing the right things, (correct) Results happen at times, at some other times it doesn’t. As a group, we believe we can do a lot better, but we need to be a bit more disciplined and show a lot more courage.”
