"It Will Be Hard To Convince Dhoni.." - Rohit Sharma On Dinesh Karthik's Selection For World Cup 2024

Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, the Indian captain hailed the performances of MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik in IPL 2024. Rohit remarked that convincing Dhoni for the wicketkeeper spot in India’s squad for the World Cup 2024, might be challenging, highlighting Dhoni’s impressive innings for CSK against MI, where Chennai emerged victorious by 20 runs at Wankhede Stadium.

“I was quite impressed, quite impressed, especially with Dinesh. The way he batted a couple of nights back. Dhoni, as well, he came to play 4 balls, made a huge impact, with those 20 runs. That was eventually the difference in the game,” Rohit said in the podcast.

Notably, Dhoni has been in terrific form in the ongoing IPL 2024. He continued his remarkable performances at Wankhede Stadium, possibly marking his last competitive match at the iconic venue. He once again ‘finished the match in style’ by hitting three consecutive sixes against MI captain Hardik Pandya in the final over, propelling CSK to a formidable total of 206 runs. His vintage display not only thrilled fans and experts but also impressed Rohit Sharma, who also scored a century in the same match.

Rohit dismissed the possibility of Dhoni returning, describing him as “sick and tired,” but he expressed confidence in Dinesh Karthik’s prospects for securing a spot in the T20 World Cup squad.

“It’ll be hard to convince MSD for sure to come to the West Indies I guess. He is sick and tired. He is coming to the US though to do something else. He is into golf, so he will play golf I guess. DK will be easy to convince I guess,” Rohit said.

Notably, Rohit’s stump-mic comment garnered attention as he engaged in some on-field banter with Karthik. He praised Karthik’s impressive innings for RCB and jokingly teased him about his potential inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup squad.

Rohit later revealed that he was merely trying to put pressure on Karthik, who played a crucial knock of 53 runs off 23 balls to help RCB set a competitive total of 196 runs. He said:

“I was just trying to put some pressure on him,” he said.
