Team India managed to win an ICC trophy after 11 long years. They suffered defeats in the semi finals and final all this while. However, they managed to go all the way in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and finally win the trophy. In the final at Barbados, Rohit Sharma and Co. defeated South Africa by 7 runs and became the first team to win the T20 World Cup undefeated.
They were dominant throughout the tournament. However, the victory in the final was not straight forward for them. Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. India were 34/3 at one stage and then Virat Kohli stepped up. He scored 76 runs for his team and along with Axar Patel and Shivam Dube’s cameo lifted India to 176 in their 20 overs.
India started off very well and picked up two quick wickets. However, Heinrich Klaasen attacked the spinners and brutally finished off the game at one stage. South Africa needed 30 runs off 30 balls to win the game. However, they faltered against the combined efforts of Bumrah, Hardik and Arshdeep Singh.

However, what caught of the attention of everyone was Suryakumar Yadav’s breathtaking catch in the final over of the game which helped India snatch the T20 World Cup trophy. South Africa needed 16 runs off the final over to be bowled from Hardik Pandya. Pandya bowled a low full toss to David Miller on the very first ball and Miller connected it beautifully. It was sailing over the long off boundary for a six. However, Suryakumar Yadav judged it beautifully, timed his jump and not only saved a sure six but also completed the catch.
A recent video has shown Rohit Sharma’s heartbreaking reaction when David Miller hit that shot. As soon as Miller hit it, Rohit Sharma, who was fielding at the long on boundary, thought that it was a confirmed six and had his hands on his head. However, Suryakumar Yadav did the unthinkable to save it for his captain.
