“Still Not Ruled Out”: Sourav Ganguly Gave A Big Update On Jasprit Bumrah’s Availability For T20 World Cup 2022

Contradicting the reports from Thursday, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly himself, on Friday, has now stated that Jasprit Bumrah is not yet ruled out from the T20 World Cup.

On Thursday, social media was sent into a meltdown after news agency PTI’s report that not only Bumrah has a “serious” back injury, but also which ruled him out for “4-6 months” and from the T20 World Cup, starting October 16.

Ganguly gives some hope on Jasprit Bumrah playing T20 World Cup 2022

Now, the BCCI President himself gave some clarification over Bumrah’s situation.

“Jasprit Bumrah is still not ruled out of #T20WorldCup yet. The World Cup is still quite some time away. Let’s not jump the gun,” Ganguly has reportedly told RevSportz.

Little over 24 hours before Ganguly’s latest statement, renowned journalist Kushan Sarkar had reported that Bumrah has sustained a “serious back stress fracture” that will require “4-6 months” to recover.

“Breaking News: Jasprit Bumrah is out of World T20 with a serious back stress fracture injury. No surgery reqd but out for 4-6 months as per sources. He didn’t travel with team to Trivandrum,” tweeted PTI’s journalist on Thursday afternoon.

However, ESPNcricinfo also reported that a decision on Bumrah’s “participation in the T20 World Cup will be taken in the next few days” after the BCCI medical team monitors the pacer’s progress following the scans. It is also believed that if the medical team feels Bumrah can attain match fitness even during the T20 World Cup, and not at the start, the team may take him to Australia.

Bumrah had earlier missed the Asia Cup 2022 – where India failed to reach the final – because of a back injury. He missed two months of action and had marked his return during the recent Australia series and bowled in a couple of games after being rested from the first match.

He then missed the first T20I against South Africa before being ruled out of the series entirely. Mohammed Siraj has been added to the squad for South Africa series and could possibly get a place on the flight to Australia.

Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar are in the reserves for the T20 World Cup, and if Bumrah is ruled out one of them is likely to be promoted to the main squad.
