Sanju Samson has been one of the most unluckiest Indian cricketer in recent times. In a year of T20 event, he gets his chances in the ODI squad and in a year of ODI tournament, he gets his chances in T20 squad. Samson hasn’t got the chances to play regularly in the ODI team despite having good numbers in this format. Moreover, he was picked up for the T20 World Cup 2024. However, he had to sit on the sidelines throughout the whole tournament in which India won. Now, after the T20 World Cup 2024, the ICC Champions Trophy will be held next in 2025.

However, Samson has not found hi place in the ODI squad for Sri Lanka. Samson scored a century in the last ODI against South Africa. Sanju has featured 16 ODIs in his career, has scored 510 runs and has a batting average of 56.67.

Former India cricketer, Robin Uthappa said that Sanju has faced such instances many times in his career. He has performed really well in ODIs and warrants a place in the ODI squad. However, he asked the fans to be patient and allow things to be settled with the new Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir, in place.

From Sanju’s perspective, this is not the first time he has faced such uncertainty, and it likely won’t be the last. However, his one-day numbers have been incredible. With changes in the leadership group, it’s important to allow time to settle things. As fans and supporters of Indian cricket, we must provide that space, said Uthappa.

Uthappa also added that Samson is still in the running for a place in the ODI squad. He will definitely get an opportunity yet again, but needs to score consistently in those opportunities.

Uthappa added: Sanju is not out of contention, just like any other player. It’s only a matter of time before he gets another chance. When that opportunity comes, he will need to produce consistent performances to secure his place in the team for the long term.
