"He Took A U-Turn Now" Former Chief Selector Slams Gautam Gambhir For Backing Rohit Sharma

Team India under Rohit Sharma won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in style without losing any game. This also marked the end of the wait of 11 long years without an ICC title. Also, India won the T20 World Cup after 17 years. After the final, Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from the shortest format of the game along with Ravindra Jadeja. Rahul Dravid’s contract as the head Coach expired and Gautam Gambhir has replaced him as the Head Coach.

Gambhir stated that Kohli and Rohit can be part of the ODI World Cup 2027 if they keep their form and fitness. However, he gave a hint that both the players may surely be a part a they are now focussing on two formats.

Kris Srikkanth is not happy with Gautam Gambhir for backing Rohit Sharma for ODI World Cup 2027

Former chief selector Kris Srikkanth, however, slammed Gautam Gambhir for backing Rohit Sharma to play in the ODI World Cup 2027. Srikkanth feels that Sharma does not have the fitness to survive the ODI World Cup 2027 and he also took a dig at Gambhir for taking a U-turn on his fitness stance.

“He took a U-turn now, saying there is no player like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. After becoming head coach, he said that both have a lot of cricket left and hopefully they will fit for the 2027 World Cup,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, Sharma had stated earlier that he can play till the ODI World Cup 2027 and he does not look much ahead, as of now. Rohit Sharma is yet to win a ODI World Cup trophy – his biggest dream. He led India to the final of the ODI World Cup 202 by winning all the 10 games in the lead up to the final but suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the final.
