A still of former India skipper Virat Kohli was trending on Twitter on Tuesday evening during India’s clash with Mohali. And this time, for a change, it was not because of Kohli’s batting; he didn’t do much on that front, scoring only 2 runs off 7 balls.
This memefest was because of Virat Kohli’s stunned look after a boundary shot by the Australian opener Cameron Green. It was indeed former West Indies pacer and legendary commentator Ian Bishop who sparked the onset of this memefest.
On the second ball of the second over of Australia’s innings, bowled by Umesh Yadav, Cameron Green smashed a full-length ball back past Umesh, down the ground for a tracer-bullet boundary. Nobody had a chance to even make a move as Green had struck it hard and fiercely.
After the boundary, the camera panned toward Kohli who gave a look of a stunned man, encapsulating every Indian fans’ emotion at this powerful hit by Cameron Green.
Ian Bishop took to Twitter to write a funny tweet on this bewildered look by Virat Kohli. “I can see that Virat Kohli look becoming a meme,” Bishop tweeted.

And Bishop’s prophecy came true as netizens made a number of hilarious memes on this reaction by Kohli.

Meanwhile, India skipper Rohit Sharma lamented the dismal bowling performance as the bowling attack failed to defend 208 runs. “I don’t think we bowled well. 200 is a good score to defend, and we didn’t take our chances in the field. It was a great effort from our batters, but bowlers were not quite there,” Rohit said in the post-match press conference.
All the Indian bowlers bar Axar Patel went for 11 or more runs per over, continuing their poor second innings show from the Asia Cup. India also dropped three catches- those of Green, Steve Smith and Matthew Wade, and all the three batters made the hosts pay for their mistakes.
India’s spearhead pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, is expected to play in the next game which will bolster India’s bowling. Umesh Yadav is likely to make way for Bumrah.
The second T20I is scheduled for Friday at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur.
