Inia’s stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane received a grand welcome after he returned back to Mumbai after leading India to a historic 2-1 series triumph in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Gabba.

After scripting history at the Gabba, Ajinkya Rahane, alongwith the head coach Ravi Shastri, vice-captain Rohit Sharma and young Prithvi Shaw landed in Mumbai on Thursday and they received a grand welcome.

Several pictures and videos of fans welcoming India’s stand-in skipper home have been going viral on social media. Even, when Ajinkya Rahane arrived at his residence, the stand-in skipper was greeted by the beats of dhol (drums), while the fans showered him with flower petals. Talking about Rahane’s performance in Australia, he impressed one and all with his performance as a skipper and as a batsman. He remained calm and composed during the difficult times and helped team India made a stunning comeback against Australia.

Though team India lost several players to injuries over the course, however, the young talent in the Indian cricket team rose to the occasion as team India sealed a 2-1 series win at the Gabba, ending the 32-year old win streak of the Australian cricket team.

Meanwhile, team India will next face England in a four-match Test series, which will kickstart from 5th February. Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Vijay Patil was quoted as saying by the ANI:

“Our apex body will soon have a meeting and we will decide on felicitating our players and team who performed exceptionally well in Australia. We are also trying to find a suitable time before the England series to felicitate players.”
