It would had been some frustrating times for Shubman Gill for missing his maiden ODI century – maiden international century – in his recent knocks: he had scores of 64, 43 and 98* in the three ODIs in West Indies; while he was run-out in the first ODI, rain played spoilsport to deny him a ton by only 2 runs in the third ODI.
Then, against Zimbabwe in the first ODI, Gill remained unbeaten on 82* completing the chase of 190, with his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan on 81*.
But, today, on Monday, in the third ODI vs Zimbabwe, Gill managed to breach the hundred-run barrier in what was a stylish, superbly paced innings.
The smile on his face after securing his century, easily punching the ball to deep cover for a single, and the applause from the Indian contingent, said it all; said what it meant for Gill, and the management who had, in West Indies, given him the opportunity to open ahead of Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Harsha Bhogle wrote a special tweet hailing Shubman Gill
Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle took to Twitter to make a big prediction about Shubman Gill.
Hailing the 22-year-old’s elite class and talent, Harsha Bhogle predicted that this century – Gill’s maiden century – is only the first of the many more to come in what is expected to be a long, successful and storied career.
“First of many for Shubman Gill. Serious class,” Bhogle tweeted.

Gill had come in to bat at number 3 after Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul had got India off to a slow start with their 63-run opening stand from 91 balls. He soon saw Dhawan also get out and then began to forge a partnership with Ishan Kishan.
The two youngsters didn’t held back and played their shots with freedom in their big stand of 140 runs which was built in 127 balls. Kishan’s wicket, on 50, was followed by that of Deepak Hooda.
Gill, on the other end, was pristine in his timing though, and he sent the bad balls to the boundary while on others rotated the strike regularly to increase the run rate. He was eventually dismissed for 130 runs off 97 balls, his knock including 15 sweetly-timed fours and one disdainfully hit six. Gill’s century helped India post a total of 289.
