Fans React After India’s Heartbreaking Defeat In CWG 2022 Final Vs Australia: Australian women’s cricket team continue their winning juggernaut and emerges out victorious in the final of the Commonwealth Games 2022, Birmingham, defeating India by a slender margin of 9 runs.
It was a game of multiple twists and turns, but eventually, Australia overcame a valiant effort from India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who smashed 65 off 43 runs in the chase of the target of 162.
India had put on a clinical performance in the field today, taking a couple of stunning catches, affecting a couple of sharp run-outs and there was a quick stumping by Taniya Bhatia as well.
India were given a major confidence boost when Renuka Singh dismissed opener Alyssa Healy in the third over. But the other opener, Beth Mooney and Meg Lanning, rode Australia’s chariot on with a 74-run stand from 47 balls with Mooney (61 off 41 balls) bringing up her fifty and Lanning scoring 36 off 26.
India then made several inroads, but Ashleigh Gardner (25 off 15) and Rachael Haynes (18 off 10) ensured that Australia reach a competitive total of 161, which, on the pitch that wore as it was the second game of the day on it and would prove enough as Indian batters buckled under the pressure of the big game.
India’s hero from the semi-final, Smriti Mandhana, was dismissed cheaply today for only 6 runs and so was Shafali Verma, for 11 runs, with India in deep waters at 22/2.
Then came Harmanpreet ‘Thor’ wielding her hammer to all parts of Edgbaston and giving the indomitable Aussies cause of worry, and a rewind of her epic knock from the 2017 World Cup semis.
At the other end, she had the support of Jemimah Rodrigues who finished with run-a-ball 33, who, in hindsight, could have batted a bit more faster, and the pair added 96 runs in 71 balls in which Kaur thumped 63 off 40. She walloped 7 fours and 2 sixes in her stay, but at the dismissal of both the set batters, India collapsed – and collapsed till the end.
From a strong position of 118/2, India went down to 121/5, and Australia pounced on that seize of momentum to bowl India out on 152.
Another heartbreak for the Indian cricket team. Another sea of myriad reactions on Twitter from fans:

This loss, like so many of the previous instances, is also on the BCCI. No women’s IPL despite repeated calls from the players too. Till you prepare them to be in such situations, again and again, these results will not change.

What a match…
looked like they were going to chase down this total, but this @AusWomenCricket find a way. They have completed the trifecta – @T20WorldCup, @cricketworldcup and now #CommonwealthGames GOLD MEDALLIST

Rubbish batting by the Indian team. No common sense. Gave away a winning game on a platter. #INDvsAUS #WomensCricket #CWG22

This Australian women’s team hasn’t lost a T20I for 495 days. #AUSvIND #B2022

At one stage India were 2/118, needing 44 from 34 to win gold.
From there, Australia took 8/34 in 31 balls

This is the Australian women’s cricket team we are talking about; One of the greatest ever cricket teams (and to think there’s no Perry in this!)
; there was no way they weren’t going to make a comeback after the Harmanpreet-Jemimah partnership..
Looks to have bagged the game now— Jatin Khandelwal (@jr_khandelwal) August 7, 2022
The load up of Harmanpreet’s bat while playing a shot is as Sexy-Yuvraj-Singh as with any batter I have seen..#INDWvsAUSW

You feel bad for the Indian women’s team. Commiserations.
There wasn’t much difference between AUS and India in terms of skill. But AUS once again put on a wonderful exhibition of how to win the crucial moments of a match.

Do people ever get tired of winning? At what stage does this Aus side reach there.
— Prashanth S (@ps_it_is) August 7, 2022
Well done, India. The men’s team didn’t even make it out of the group stage in 1998 CWG.

The Indian senior team – men’s or women’s- have not won a single tournament since 2014.

How did they lose from here?

Australia again. So near and yet so far. But well played. Silver is still good. #INDvsAUS

Congratulations @AusWomenCricket – champion team. Holders of the T20 World Cup, Women’s World Cup & gold medal winners at the Commonwealth Games. The unit knows how to win from any situation. India gave them a strong challenge twice yet couldn’t beat them at Commonwealth Games
— Sarang Bhalerao (@bhaleraosarang) August 7, 2022
Congratulations Australia.
What hurts most is that India could have beaten Australia on both occasions and yet lost twice.
It came down to handling pressure.
One team plays a top-notch league at home. The other does not.

You gave it all you had. Keep your heads high @ImHarmanpreet and team. We are all incredibly proud of you.
