IND vs ENG: Tactical Strategies India Might Employ Against England In Manchester

IND vs ENG: Possible strategies of the Indian team in the Old Trafford Test

In the IND vs ENG match, Manchester’s Old Trafford ground has always been challenging. The humidity in the air and the seam movement from the surface of the pitch can give England’s fast bowlers an early advantage. In such a situation, the Indian cricket team will have to adopt a well-planned strategy, which shows flexibility according to the situation.

Indian batsmen will have to show patience in the beginning. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul should adopt the art of leaving the ball in the first session and not take risks. In matches like IND vs ENG, even a small mistake costs heavily. In the middle order, Karun Nair/Sai Sudarshan and Shubman Gill should use soft hands while playing the ball late, so that the effect of swing is reduced. One should try to survive in the initial session without worrying about the run rate because the pitch in the Old Trafford Test becomes batsman-friendly later.

How should the Indian Cricket Team play in the Old Trafford Test?

On the other hand, England’s ‘Bazzball’ approach is also an opportunity for India. If England’s batsmen attack in the early overs, Jasprit Bumrah should bowl with an aggressive fielding setting. Fielders should be placed in catching positions like slip and gully, so that careless shots of a pair like Zak Crawley or Ben Duckett can be capitalised on. Mohammad Siraj should also maintain the line around the off-stump.

Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar will also play an important role in the spin department. The pitch breaks on the third and fourth day in the Old Trafford Test, which spinners can take advantage of. Wickets can be taken by putting pressure on batsmen like Joe Root. If Kuldeep Yadav gets a chance, which is unlikely, he will also be a potent threat for the English batters.

In the IND vs ENG fourth Test, India should field a balanced playing eleven. The pair of Jadeja and Washington, along with three fast bowlers—Bumrah, Siraj and Akash Deep—should be the way to go, along with Nitish Kumar Reddy. However, if the Old Trafford pitch looks green, then Prasidh Krishna can be considered.

In this IND vs ENG match, fast reflexes and sharp fielding will be decisive. Agile fielders are needed in the slip and short leg positions who can cash in on every opportunity. Sledging can also be used in a limited way to create mental pressure, as we have seen in the Lord’s Test match.

If the Indian cricket team plays with discipline and strategy in the England vs India Old Trafford Test, then it is not impossible to defeat England in their own bastion. If the Indian team comes out with aggressive and disciplined bowling and a calm mind in the Old Trafford Test, then the ground for victory can be prepared in this match.
