Rohit Sharma Shattered Virat Kohli’s Big Record As India’s T20I Captain

Rohit Sharma Shattered Virat Kohli’s Big Record As India’s T20I Captain: Less than 24 hours after India and West Indies contested in a last-over thriller in the second T20I on Monday, in St. Kitts, both the teams were up against each other again on Tuesday for the third T20I.

India, who had won the first T20I in Trinidad by 68 runs, lost the second T20I as the hosts chased down the target of 139 with four balls to spare and 5 wickets in hand. Both teams look for a victory in the third T20I to take a lead before the action moves to Florida for the next couple of games.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first. West Indies put up a decent total of 164. Opener Kyle Mayers slammed 73 runs off 50 balls while others rallied around him to take their team’s total to 164.

For India Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets, while Hardik Pandya returned with brilliant figures of 1/19 in his 4 overs and Arshdeep Singh, who bowled three overs in the death on a trot, returned with figures of 1/33.

India got a strong start with Suryakumar Yadav, opening for the third game in a row, creaming two boundaries in the first by Obed McCoy, the left-arm pacer who had delivered a wicket-maiden first-over in the previous match but this time SKY took care of him.

Skipper Rohit Sharma got into the act quickly by pulling the first ball from Alzarri Joseph for a six over deep square leg. However, he could well have been dismissed as well because Dominic Drakes, the fielder in the deep on the leg side, got a hand to it.

To Rohit’s fortune, it parried away for a six and with this maximum Sharma surpassed Virat Kohli for most sixes as India’s T20I skipper.

Rohit Sharma, who had led India in an interim capacity during Kohli’s captaincy tenure when the latter was rested, now has 60* sixes (he’s retired hurt at the time of writing and may or may not return to bat in this innings) as India’s T20I skipper in 34 innings. Kohli had 59 sixes in the 50 matches he captained India in.

Former skipper MS Dhoni, who batted largely in the middle and lower middle order, had hit 34 sixes in 72 T20I matches as India’s captain.
