Yuzvendra Chahal Leads the Most Wickets in IPL History List Updated After IPL 2025

The Indian Premier League has produced some of cricket’s most compelling bowling performances across 18 seasons, and the most wickets in IPL history list updated through IPL 2025 shows how completely a handful of bowlers have owned the competition across its entire lifespan. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal sits at the very top, having claimed 205 wickets across 161 matches at an average of 22.61 and an economy rate of 7.85; a mark no active bowler is anywhere close to touching right now.

Most Wickets in IPL History List Updated: The Full Top 10 Breakdown in the lead up to IPL 2026

Piyush Chawla occupies second place on the most wickets in IPL history list, updated with 192 wickets in 192 matches, proof of how long he has stuck around across multiple franchises since the inaugural 2008 edition. Trinidad-born all-rounder Dwayne Bravo follows closely at third with 183 wickets in 161 matches, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the only bowler to win back-to-back Purple Caps, stands level on 183 wickets from 177 appearances. Ravichandran Ashwin sits fifth on 182 wickets from 214 matches, ahead of Sunil Narine, who sits just behind in a tightly packed group on 181 scalps.

Further down, Lasith Malinga’s tally of 170 wickets from 122 matches stands out even more given how few games he actually played, with his death-bowling accuracy placing him among the most feared bowlers the IPL has ever seen. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja both feature in the extended top ten, both leaving a clear mark on the sides they represented over the years.

Importantly, the most wickets in IPL history list updated after IPL 2025 also shows that spinners still own the top of these charts. Four of the top six bowlers are spin options, which pushes back against the idea that T20 cricket inherently favours pace. Chahal’s achievement is all the more impressive because he built his tally primarily through consistent variation and flight rather than brute force, outfoxing batters at a time when batting talent across IPL squads has kept getting stronger every season.

IPL 2026 Orange Cap Race Predictions: Top Five Contenders

The most wickets in IPL history list updated will likely see movement before IPL 2026 concludes, with younger seamers and spinners closing the gap on some of the mid-table stalwarts. Even so, Chahal’s 205-wicket record is not going anywhere for a good while yet, and studying the most wickets in IPL history list updated is one of the clearest ways to follow how bowling craft has shaped this tournament’s greatest moments.
