RCB vs DC IPL 2026: Delhi Capitals chased down 176, finishing at 179/4 in 19.5 overs, winning by six wickets in a dramatic finish against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 18 April 2026. That result has sparked some tough conversations in the RCB camp. Two players, in particular, are now firmly in the firing line: leg-spinner Suyash Sharma and left-hander Devdutt Padikkal. While RCB went into this fixture as heavy favourites, the loss brutally exposed the flaws that their recent winning streak had managed to paper over.

RCB vs DC: The collapse that cost RCB the game at Chinnaswamy

RCB looked comfortable at 90/1 after nine overs, with Phil Salt finding his groove and Devdutt Padikkal at the crease. But from that position of strength, the innings completely fell apart.

Salt reached his fifty but got out shortly after, as RCB lost their way with a flurry of wickets. They eventually scrambled to 175/8, with Lungi Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel picking up two wickets each. Then, when it came to the defence, the bowling attack crumbled exactly when the pressure was highest.

The bowlers struggled to keep a lid on things during the middle overs. While Suyash Sharma and Rasikh Salam Dar were tidy in patches in the RCB vs DC IPL 2026 game, they couldn’t find the breakthroughs needed to stall DC.

KL Rahul set the tone with a 57 off 34 balls, Tristan Stubbs anchored the chase with an unbeaten 60, and David Miller finished things off with a quickfire 22 off 10. This last-over defeat leaves Rajat Patidar’s side looking for answers as the tournament enters a do-or-die phase.

Why does Suyash Sharma look increasingly out of his depth?

Suyash Sharma’s IPL career started with a lot of hype. The young leg-spinner had a brilliant debut season with KKR in 2023, taking 10 wickets in 11 games. He followed that up by playing a key role in RCB’s 2025 title win, highlighted by a Player of the Match performance in Qualifier 1. Those performances earned him plenty of credit, and RCB backed him with a ₹2.60 crore retention for the 2026 season.

However, reputation alone doesn’t win games, and in Saturday’s match against DC, Sharma’s limitations were plain to see. RCB’s death bowling leaked runs, and Sharma failed to strike when the team needed a wicket most. Looking at his career stats, 18 wickets across 27 matches at an economy of 8.75 is a major red flag, especially at a ground like the Chinnaswamy, where the boundaries are short, and the pitches are flat.

At this level, a leg-spinner who goes for nearly nine an over without taking wickets is a liability. With Rasikh Salam Dar showing he belongs in the XI and Vicky Ostwal waiting in the wings, it’s becoming harder to justify Suyash’s spot in the lineup.

Why is Devdutt Padikkal’s time in the top three running out?

Padikkal’s role in the batting order is becoming a major headache for RCB. His dismissal of Axar Patel was a trap he walked straight into; Axar held back his spinners specifically for Padikkal, who struggled through a scratchy stay before getting out cheaply. It was a clear tactical move from DC, and it showed that opponents now see Padikkal as a weak link to be exploited, particularly when left-arm spin is involved.

RCB’s batting identity is built on being aggressive from the jump. Virat Kohli and Phil Salt usually provide the platform, and Rajat Patidar keeps the momentum going in the middle. In this setup, the number three spot is vital, as it’s the bridge between the openers and the power hitters like Tim David and Jitesh Sharma. Padikkal simply isn’t playing that part right now. His 11 off 9 balls did nothing to help RCB accelerate during the middle overs, and this has become a recurring theme this season.

2 Big Mistakes That Led To Bengaluru’s Defeat In RCB vs DC IPL 2026 Game

With Venkatesh Iyer available as an impact sub and Jordan Cox as another option, the management has alternatives. The loss in the RCB vs DC IPL 2026 game sent a loud message to Patidar and the coaching staff: the top order needs a shake-up before this title defence completely falls off the rails.

RCB are still in a good spot on the points table, but the cracks shown against DC need fixing fast. Whether the management makes the tough calls now will determine if they can actually go all the way again.
