KKR vs GT records shift as Knight Riders end GT’s five-match winning streak with a 29-run Eden Gardens thriller

Kolkata Knight Riders kept their season alive by beating a red-hot Gujarat Titans side by 29 runs in Match 60 of IPL 2026 at Eden Gardens on the night of 16 May. The KKR vs GT records and KKR vs GT stats from this match tell a hell of a story; one of a team finding its groove just in time, snapping an opponent’s five-game winning streak, and finally giving the home crowd a massive reason to celebrate.

With the win, KKR took their points tally to 11, keeping alive the mathematical chance of reaching 15 points and sneaking into the fourth playoff spot. They desperately needed a big performance tonight, and the top order delivered the fireworks before the bowlers closed it out at the death.

Gujarat Titans arrived at Eden Gardens looking practically unstoppable. They were riding a five-match winning streak, with every single player in the squad firing on all cylinders. GT won the toss and chose to bowl first, a move that looked clever for about three minutes before Finn Allen completely tore up the script.

Allen smashed 93 runs off just 35 balls before Sai Kishore finally got him out, but the damage was already done. Allen and Angkrish Raghuvanshi put together a blistering half-century partnership to push KKR past the 100-run mark. From there, Raghuvanshi (unbeaten on 82 off 44) and Cameron Green (unbeaten on 52 off 28) unleashed a brutal, unbroken 108-run stand for the third wicket, powering KKR to a massive 247 for 2 after 20 overs. Rahane fell early for 14, but that single breakthrough was an absolute afterthought on a night where GT’s bowlers completely ran out of answers.

KKR vs GT stats reveal a historic batting night and an Eden Gardens first

The 247 KKR put on the board was a massive statement, and GT’s chase was a mix of pure fight and ultimate limitation. Shubman Gill hit a brilliant 85 off 49 balls while Jos Buttler chipped in with 57, and their century stand for the second wicket kept GT in the hunt for much longer than KKR was comfortable with. Sai Sudharsan, who had to walk off early after taking a nasty blow to the elbow from Kartik Tyagi, came back later to hit an unbeaten 53, but GT had already lost too much ground.

Sunil Narine walked out for his 200th IPL match and made sure it was a night to remember. He struck with his very first ball of the match, tempting Nishant Sindhu into a lofted drive that went straight to long-off, where Manish Pandey took an easy catch. Narine finished with brilliant figures of 2 for 29. Thanks to Saurabh Dubey’s tight bowling at the death and a calm final over from Cameron Green, who also picked up Rahul Tewatia, KKR sealed the 29-run victory as GT finished on 218 for 4.

Looking closely at the KKR vs GT stats, this win is a massive milestone for Kolkata. It is only the second time KKR have beaten GT in their six head-to-head meetings, and crucially, it marks their first-ever victory over GT in three attempts at Eden Gardens. Meanwhile, GT tasted defeat for the first time in six games, ending a run that equalled their longest-ever winning streak from back in the 2022 season. Those unique KKR vs GT records provide a lot of historical context for what might otherwise have looked like a standard mid-table battle.

KKR’s qualification scenario after beating GT keeps the playoff door ajar

KKR still have to win their next two matches, against the Mumbai Indians on 20 May and Delhi Capitals on 24 May, both right here at Eden Gardens. On top of that, they need a lot of outside results to go their way. They need either PBKS or SRH to lose every remaining game, while hoping neither CSK nor RR wins more than one match. If the stars align perfectly, KKR can grab that fourth spot with 15 points.

GT missed a golden opportunity to become the first team to lock down a playoff spot in IPL 2026, and they will take that disappointment into their final few games. For KKR, the math is incredibly tight, but the confidence in the dugout looks completely renewed after this batting masterclass.

KKR Qualification Scenario After Win Against GT: Can Knights Make It?

The KKR vs GT records will always remember this night at Eden Gardens for Finn Allen’s absolute carnage, Narine celebrating his 200th game in style, and the Knights proving that counting them out on home turf is a dangerous mistake. The KKR vs GT stats from this match will stand as proof that on their day, in front of their fans, KKR can make even the tournament favorites look incredibly ordinary.
