The world woke up to the heartbreaking news of former swashbuckling former all-rounder Andrew Symonds’s death. The two-time World Cup winner died in a car crash on Saturday night. The untimely demise of Andrew Symonds is another tragic blow for cricket lovers around the world after the recent deaths of fellow greats Shane Warne and Rod Marsh.

Andrew Symonds, who played 26 Tests and 198 one-day internationals for Australia from 1998 to 2009, was the sole passenger in the crash just outside of Townsville in his home state of Queensland. As per the police statement, the car Symonds was driving left the road and rolled. Police confirmed that emergency services attempted to revive the driver and sole occupant, however, he couldn’t survive.

“Early information indicates, shortly after 11pm the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road, near Alice River Bridge when it left the roadway and rolled. Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of his injuries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating” the police statement confirmed.

Symonds was one of the most loved cricketers, who was known not only for his hard-hitting approach to the game but also for his easy-going personality. He was widely hailed as one of the most talented all-rounders Australian cricket has seen. He was a key part of the Australian cricket team that won World Cups in 2003 and 2007.
