Former Indian cricketer and batting legend Virender Sehwag congratulated senior player Ravi Ashwin, hours after Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) changed its rules and gave a green signal to ‘Mankading’.
Well, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has moved to reframe the law around running out the batter at the non-striker end while backing up. The MCC also sought a permanent ban on the use of saliva to shine the ball going forward.
Earlier under Law 41, this mode of dismissal used to come under the ‘unfair play’ category. Now as the MCC came up with a change in the rule, Virender Sehwag didn’t miss out on taking a dig at the Indian off-spinner.
In his Tweet, Sehwag congratulated Ashwin for becoming the second-highest wicket-taker in Tests for India and also for the new change in the law. Sehwag feels that now Ashwin will have the full freedom to Mankad batters at the non-striker’s end. He wrote:
“Congratulations @ashwinravi99, great week this one. First becoming second highest wicket taker in Tests for India, and now this. Ab full freedom to plot such run-outs with Buttler. Ek karna zaroor”

Well, it has to be noted that not long back, Ashwin made headlines after he Mankaded Jos Buttler during a match between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings, leaving the cricket world divided. While many backed Ashwin’s tactics, several people called it ‘against the spirit of cricket’ and ‘unfair’.
Unfortunately, Ashwin will not be able to Mankad Buttler in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League as both the stars are now in the same team. Ashwin was bought by Rajasthan Royals for INR 5 crores at the IPL 2022 mega-auctions.
