Tributes have been pouring out in immense numbers since the unforeseen death of arguably the greatest bowler of all time, including that from popular singer Ed Sheeran, who became friends with Shane Warne in 2014 after meeting through a mutual friend at a Kylie Minogue concert in Melbourne.
In his Instagram post, Sheeran said that he was “absolutely gutted” at the passing away of Warne, while also revealed that he had had a phone call conversation with the Australian just four days ago before Warne’s demies.

He posted a photograph of Shane Warne with Aussie music promoter Michael Gudinski, and wrote: “The world keeps taking incredible people away. I spoke to Shane on the anniversary of Michael’s passing this week saying we were both raising a glass of 707 in his honour, and now this news comes out.”

He added: “Shane was the kindest heart, and always went above and beyond to make people feel welcome and special. Such a gentleman. He gave so many hours and years of his life to bring joy to others, and was such an amazing friend to me. I’ll bloody miss you mate. Absolutely gutted.”

Gudinski died on 1 March 2021 as a result of mixed drug use.

Sheeran and Warne were last photographed together in April last year after the former flew out to Australia for Gudniski’s state memorial in Melbourne.

Shane Warne had also given Sheeran a special gift at the World Cup final in 2019 in England. It was a signed bat and customised Australian cricket team shirt with his name on it. The ‘Shape of you’ singer said of Warne in a radio interview: “I really like him, he’s a hero. I have three phones and he texts all three of them.”
