Gautam Gambhir Hailed Virat Kohli’s Legacy As India’s Test Captain

Gautam Gambhir Hailed Virat Kohli’s Legacy As India’s Test Captain: As the Indian cricket team is locking its horns with Sri Lanka in the ongoing 1st Test match in Mohali, the game is special for a couple of reasons for Team India.

Virat Kohli, who is hailed as one of the greatest exponents of the purest format, is playing his 100th Test match as the Indian side is taking on Sri Lanka in the ongoing 1st Test match in Mohali today. The ongoing game against Sri Lanka also marks the first captaincy Test of Rohit Sharma, who recently took over the Indian Test captaincy.

Former Indian cricketer and world cup hero Gautam Gambhir feels that Rohit will not face any major challenges in his tenure as India’s Test captain as Virat had developed a potent bowling attack.

Speaking in the pre-match show on Star Sports ahead of the Test series opener, Gautam Gambhir showered some lavish praises on former Indian captain Virat Kohli for developing a potent India bowling attack as Test captain. He said:

“I don’t think so. Because it won’t be a big challenge for Rohit Sharma in red-ball cricket. If you talk about Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinka Rahane, you have experienced players like Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer who can replace them. Iyer had made a bright start to Test cricket,”

He added:

“When you have Ashwin, Jadeja, Shami, Bumrah, then it doesn’t get (difficult). Bowlers win you matches, batters only set the match up. Virat Kohli has developed India’s bowling strength, so I don’t think it should be difficult for Rohit Sharma in red-ball cricket.”

Gambhir further said that it is easier to lead in India than overseas. He said:

“In India, it’s comparatively easier. You win the toss and bat. Overseas, it gets difficult because the condition is challenging. Here, you know you can set the game if you bat first,”

Meanwhile, Virat became only the 12th Indian cricketer to play 100 Test matches. Ahead of the game, Virat was felicitated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on the special occasion. He was honored with a special 100th Test cap by Rahul Dravid.
