Former India batsman Vinod Kambli has got in the news for wrong and unwanted reasons. Kambli, a childhood close friend of Sachin Tendulkar, rammed his car into the gate of his residential society in Bandra on Sunday afternoon.

The police said that Kambli allegedly argued with the complex’s watchman and some residents after the incident.

“Vinod Kambli was arrested and was released on bail. His medical examination has been done at Bhabha hospital and his blood sample has also been preserved for CA,” the police officials stated.

Kambli has been charged under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 279 (rash driving), 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427 (mischief causing damage), the Bandra police station official added.

The Bandra police said that Kambli initially had hit a stationary car parked on the premises of his residential building at Jewel apartment near Bandra reclamation

Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjunath Singhe (Zone-IX) was quoted by The Indian Express as saying: “He was in an intoxicated condition when the incident happened. The Bandra police have launched an investigation.”

“The car belonged to Tajaswini Pawar, wife of another former Indian cricketer Ramesh Pawar,” said the officer and added that Kambli then dashed into the compound wall of the building.

“As soon as he came out of the compound in his car, Kambli was intercepted by police officials deployed nearby. He was then arrested and released on bail by evening,” the officer added.

The police then took him to the Bandra police station, following which he was sent for medical examination that proved that Kambli was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Vinod Kambli was one of the most talented players to have played for India and had a brilliant start to his career, however, the left-handed batter fizzled out due to falling on-field show and some off-field issues as well.
He still played in 17 Tests in which he averaged 54 with 4 centuries, and 101 ODIs, averaging 32.
