Bihar batsman Sakibul Gani entered his name in the record books as he became the first-ever batsman to score a triple hundred on his first-class debut.

He achieved this feat on the second day of the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 game against Mizoram at the Jadavpur University Campus 2nd Ground, Kolkata.  Bihar piled up 686 for 5 declared in 159.4 overs against Mizoram in a Plate Group match.

Gani amassed 341 runs in just 405 balls with two sixes and 56 fours and shared a giant partnership of 538 runs for the fourth wicket alongside double-centurion Babul Kumar, who made 229 not out off 398 balls. The Mizoram bowlers grew helpless against the pair as they ticked off runs quickly after earlier being reduced to 71/3.

22-year-old Gani broke Ajay Rohera’s record for the highest score on first-class debut, which was set in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season. Rohera had then made 267* for Madhya Pradesh against Hyderabad in Indore.
Rohera himself had also broken the record of Amol Muzumdar who had held that record for a long time. Muzumdar hit 260 on debut for Bombay (now Mumbai) against Haryana standing in the 1993-94 season.
Coming in at number 5, at the score of 71/3, Sakibul Gani and Babul Kumar batted the entire day, with Gani remaining not out on 136; he made more than 200 runs on the second day, before eventually being caught by Taruwar Kohli off Iqbal Abdulla’s bowling in the 149th over of Bihar’s innings. 10 overs later the innings was declared on a mammoth score of 686.

Wishes pour in huge numbers after Gani’s historic achievement. One special tweet came from Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar who congratulated the youngster for his incredible feat.

Congratulations to Sakibul Gani for a solid performance in his debut Ranji Trophy match.

Keep it up. https://t.co/B7C7cF7mwL
