Babar Azam Paid A Heartfelt Tribute To Lata Mangeshkar

Sunday morning started with a sad piece of news when everyone learned that legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar has passed away, aged 92, due to a multi-organ failure in Mumbai.

Lata Mangeshkar was known as the ‘Queen of Melody’ and the ‘Nightingale of India’ for her melodious voice that had charmed the listeners for over 7 decades.

She had tested positive for Covid-19 with mild symptoms on January 8 and was undergoing treatment at the hospital. She was admitted to the ICU of Breach Candy hospital.

It was reported that she was showing signs of improvement in her health until last week but her health deteriorated and she was put back on ventilator support on Saturday morning. Mangeshkar breathed her last at 8:12 am in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. This news had sent the entire country into the gloom.

Not only in India, but condolences have been made from her fans all around the world. One among them is Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Sending prayers from the other side of the border, Babar wrote a heartfelt tweet on Sunday afternoon.

“End of a golden era. Her magical voice and legacy will continue to live in the hearts of millions worldwide. An unparalleled icon! RIP Smt. Lata Mangeshkar Ji,” the Pakistan skipper tweeted.

Born in Indore in 1929, Mangeshkar remained the voice behind the screen for generations. She began her career at the age of 13 in 1942 and sang over 30,000 songs in several Indian languages

Her last full album was for the late filmmaker Yash Chopra’s 2004 film ‘Veer Zaara’. Mangeshkar’s last song was ‘Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti Ki,’ which was released on March 30, 2021, as a tribute to the Indian Army.

Lata Mangeshkar was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour in 2001. She was also the recipient of several awards including Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dada Saheb Phalke Award, and multiple National Film Awards.

Soon after the news, the Indian players and the board decided that they will be wearing black armbands during the first ODI versus West Indies in Ahmedabad to condole the sad demise of the beloved singer.

Speaking about the India-West Indies first ODI, the hosts won the encounter comfortably by 6 wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal was the Man of the Match for his 4-wicket haul that restricted the visitors to 176 all out, which was overhauled comfortably by India led by skipper Rohit Sharma’s quickfire 60 off 51 balls.
